Preach God's Truth and NOT your opinion!

As pastors and ministers of the word, it is our duty to faithfully preach God's truth from the Bible, not our personal opinions. In today's world, where individual beliefs and perspectives are often valued above absolute truth, it is vital for us to stay rooted in the Word of God and share it accurately with our congregations. In this blog post, we will explore why preaching from the Bible is important and provide scripture support for this practice.

First and foremost, as followers of Christ, our highest authority should be the Bible, not our own thoughts or ideas. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." This verse clearly reminds us that the Bible is inspired by God and valuable for teaching and training in righteousness. It is not merely a collection of stories or moral lessons but the very Word of God that guides us in our faith and service to Him.

Furthermore, preaching from the Bible protects us against the temptation to conform to the ever-changing standards of this world. In Galatians 1:10, Paul writes, "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." When we preach our own opinions, we risk watering down the truth to appease culture or our congregations. However, when we faithfully preach from the Bible, we are freed from the pressure of seeking human approval and can boldly proclaim God's unchanging truth.

Additionally, preaching from the Bible helps us avoid the danger of false teaching. In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Paul warns, "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." Relying on our own opinions instead of God's Word exposes us to the risk of spreading false teaching. But remaining faithful to preaching the Bible allows us to confidently share the true, unchanging Word of God.

In conclusion, as pastors and ministers of the word, we have a duty to preach God's truth from the Bible, not our personal opinions. The Word of God is our foundation, our guide, and our ultimate authority. Let us remember Paul's words in 2 Timothy 2:15, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." May we all strive to preach faithfully, knowing that the Bible is the only source of absolute truth that will never fade away.

Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
