As the new administration took office, President Trump wasted no time implementing changes across the federal government through executive orders. One of the most controversial changes was the termination of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (DEI) programs. This decision not only affected the government sector but also had a ripple effect on large corporate companies, leading many to follow suit by eliminating their DEI programs. This decision also eliminated staff positions responsible for implementing and sustaining these programs. Another significant change was eliminating the telework program for government employees, requiring them to return to the office instead of working from home. These sweeping changes have provoked fear and uncertainty among those affected, but what does God tell Christians through the Bible about these actions?
First and foremost, it is essential to understand that the fear and uncertainty brought upon by these changes are not from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love, and self-discipline." As Christians, we are called to trust in God and not be overcome by fear or uncertainty. Instead, we are to seek His wisdom and guidance during this time. Furthermore, the Bible also reminds us in Philippians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." This verse reminds us that we should not allow fear and uncertainty to consume us. Instead, we are encouraged to bring our worries and concerns to God in prayer, and He will give us peace that surpasses all understanding.
Now, let’s explore some biblical living lessons that can guide us through these times of fear and uncertainty.
1. Trust in God's Sovereignty
As Christians, we believe God is sovereign and in control of everything. In Isaiah 46:9-10, God declares, "Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please." This verse reassures us that God's plans and purposes will come to pass, regardless of any changes made by man.
2. Have Faith in God's Provision
Philippians 4:19 reminds us, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." As Christians, we can trust that God will provide for us in every circumstance, whether through employment or other means.
3. Embrace Change with a Positive Attitude
As we navigate these changes, it is important to remember Romans 12:2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will." As Christians, we are called to have a renewed mindset and embrace change with a positive attitude, knowing that God's plans are always good and perfect.
4. Show Love and Compassion to Others
In times of uncertainty and fear, it is crucial to show love and compassion to others. Hebrews 13:16 says, "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." As Christians, we are called to love one another and extend kindness to those who may be affected by these changes.
5. Stand firm in your faith
Lastly, it is essential to stand firm in your faith, knowing that God is with us and will never leave us. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." As we face uncertainty and fear, let us stand firm in our faith and trust God's plans.
The changes initiated by the new administration have brought about fear and uncertainty for many. Still, as Christians, we are reminded to trust in God's sovereignty, have faith in His provision, embrace change positively, show love and compassion to others, and stand firm in our faith. These biblical living lessons serve as a source of peace and comfort during this time, knowing that God is with us and has a plan for each one of us. Let us hold onto these truths and continue seeking His guidance and wisdom as we navigate these changes.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans for you to succeed and not to fail. Plans for hope and a future."
