Living a life pleasing to God is the ultimate goal for every follower of Christ. It is a journey that requires dedication, commitment, and unwavering faith. To understand how to live a life that is pleasing to God, we must first examine what it means to please Him. According to the Bible, pleasing God means living a life that aligns with His will and commandments. In Colossians 1:10, Paul encourages the believers to “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” This verse highlights that pleasing God involves not only our actions but also our thoughts and knowledge of Him.
The first step to living a life pleasing to God is to have a strong relationship with Him. This involves daily communication through prayer, studying His Word, and seeking His guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” By acknowledging God in all our ways, we surrender our will to His and allow Him to guide us.
Another way to please God is to live a life of obedience. In John 14:15, Jesus says, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” Obedience demonstrates our love for God and is essential for living a life that pleases Him. This obedience should come not from fear or obligation but from love and reverence for God.
Moreover, living a life pleasing to God involves serving others. In Mark 10:45, Jesus says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate His example and serve others selflessly. This can be through volunteering, acts of kindness, or simply showing love and compassion to those around us.
Furthermore, living a life pleasing to God entails living a life of holiness and righteousness. In 1 Peter 1:15-16, it says, “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” As children of God, we are called to live a life that reflects His holiness. This includes abstaining from sinful behaviors and pursuing righteousness in all areas of our lives.
Lastly, a life pleasing to God is marked by faith and trust in Him. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.” Our faith in God should not waver, even in difficult times; instead, it should grow stronger. By trusting in God and believing in His promises, we demonstrate our love and devotion to Him.
Living a life pleasing to God requires a combination of factors, such as a strong relationship with Him, obedience, service, holiness, and faith. It is not an easy journey, but it becomes possible with God’s grace and guidance. As we strive to please God, let us remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” May we constantly seek to live a life that is pleasing to God, and may He continue to guide us on this journey.
